Get Involved

We encourage you to “get in where you fit in”. There are multiple ways you can help us build a healthy, addiction-free community.

Volunteer

You can join our work by participating on a committee or helping us spread the word on how to build a healthy, addiction-free community.

Committees

Medical Marijuana
How will the legalization of marijuana as medicine affect our community? This committee works to educate the community on the new law and raise awareness of the health effects of using marijuana, especially for individuals under 25. Click here to join.

Prescription Opiates/Heroin
Preventing access to prescription opiates is an evidence-based practice that prevents opiate and heroin addiction. This committee is focused on preventing access to opiates through the distribution of Deterra drug deactivation pouches and promotion of Drug Take Back Days and Project DUMP. We are always looking for partners to help us spread the word about safe medicine usage and disposal. To join, email us.

Problem Gambling Coalition
The majority of Ohioans can gamble responsibly without it affecting their lives. However, for a small segment of our community, problem gambling addiction takes over and can easily cause financial and emotional turmoil. The problem gambling coalition works to raise awareness of problem gambling and encourages the community to gamble responsibly. If you’d like to join us, we meet once a month. Email Shelia Smith for more information.

Steering Committee
Summit County Community Partnership’s steering committee is made of individuals from all segments of the community who are dedicated to reducing alcohol, drug abuse, and gambling addiction in Summit County. We meet for 90 minutes at 9:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month at the Akron Community Foundation. For more information, email Shelia Smith.

Sharing Information

We try to keep our community stocked with up-to-date information on our initiatives and equip the community with tools to build a healthy, addiction-free community. With just a few hours a month, you can help us continue to spread the word on healthy lifestyle choices in our community.
Contact Alyce Jennings if you’re able to help us share prevention tools in the community.

Social Media
Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter and help us spread prevention information in our community. If you can share our posts with your friends several times a month, then our community will have greater access to quality prevention information. Your voice advocating for a healthy community can make a difference in the lives of your friends and neighbors.
